According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, out of the 534 jobs of the U.S. economy, women earn more than men in 7 of those jobs. This means that 97% of women earn less than their male counter-parts in the same job. On Tuesday August 27th, our host Carousel Bayrd had an in-depth conversation with former Attorney General Peggy Lautenschlager and Kathy Utley, founding president at Social Innovations for Women and Communities about women in the workforce and how it is impacting our society as a whole.
Lautenschlager and Utley, shared some of their experiences of working in the workforce that is mostly male dominated and how being a woman still impacts wages today. Bayrd and her guests also discussed some of the key obstacles that women continue to face in terms of equal pay as well as how it will be up to the next generation of working women to close the gap.
